GROWING THROUGH EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Focal Director Roy Smith and two associates established the Growing Through Edication Foundation (GTEF) in 2010 and has been leading groups of self-funded volunteers to the Eastern Himalayas for the past four years working with remote schools and school communities.  Volunteers have varied in age from 16 years old to retired teachers and business people so everyone is welcome to join.

The GTEF is a public company limited by guarantee. GTEF is a 'not for profit' company and registered charity and all income and property of the company must be used solely in the promotion of its objectives and no portion can be transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividend, bonus or profit to members or directors.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Growing Through Education Foundation (GTEF) is to provide financial and practical assistance to schools and school communities with specific development needs.

VISION

  1. To raise sufficient yearly funding to directly support identified schools and school communities that require financial support. Initial target schools to be located in the East Himalaya region.
  2. To provide practical assistance to nominated schools and school communities, including teacher training, professional development and capital expenditure projects.

STRATEGIC PLAN

  1. To raise funds through:
    • Donations
    • Fundraising Activities
    • 'Sister School' partnership opportunities and fundraisers
    • Corporate donation and sponsorship
  2. To support further development of specific schools and school community needs as nominated through the Foundation and to guide in financial and practical needs.
  3. To raise awareness of the Foundation through partner organisations and support groups.
  4. To enable and further the capacity and interest of volunteer support for future trips to schools and school communities.

FUNDS RAISED

Donations, sponsorships and gifts will be directed by the Foundation to provide maximum support as needs are identified.  It is anticipated that funds may be used for; teaching professional development, practical curriculum items, financial aid i.e. student sponsorship and capital expenditure projects.

Currently, funds raised will be allocated to projects directly activated and managed by voluntourism groups promoted through GTEF.
